Poetry of the Sight

Role: Exhibition Designer, Project Manager, & Co-Curator

Scope: Spatial curation, gallery layout optimization, color blocking strategy, and small-space exhibition planning.

Poetry of the Sight honors the career of a dedicated figurative draftsman who maintained a steadfast commitment to observational drawing during an era dominated by abstract and conceptual movements. Known for small-scale ink portraits and still lifes that explore human alienation, loneliness, and fleeting human connections, the artist’s work balances meticulous geometric construction with deep emotional expression.

As co-curator and exhibition designer, the core objective was to construct a compelling mini-retrospective of his late works that captured both his technical precision and his poignant psychological narrative.

Spatial Challenges & Execution

The primary design constraint was spatial: managing a remarkably compact gallery footprint while giving 25 distinct, intimate artworks the physical presence they deserved. Key execution strategies included:

• Spatial Density & Pacing: Overcame severe space limitations through careful, measured spacing and precise sightline planning. This ensured that every individual drawing had ample "room to breathe," preventing visual clutter and allowing visitors to engage with the fine details of the ink work up close.

• Strategic Color Blocking: Implemented a targeted color-blocking wall strategy to anchor the exhibition. The deliberate use of background tones structured the journey through the compact space, breaking the room into cohesive thematic zones while maintaining a fluid, unified narrative across all 25 pieces.
