Ramel

On form, material, and the imprint of process.

Ramel the Arabic word for "sand", is a sculptural exploration of sand casting as a process of discovery. Rather than designing functional objects, the project embraces experimentation, allowing the casting process itself to shape the final outcome.

Each piece begins with a simple geometric study: a loft between a rectangle and a circle. Repeated and subtly varied, these forms become vessels for investigating how molten metal interacts with sand. As the metal cools, it records every grain, cavity, and imperfection of the mould, producing surfaces that could never be fully predicted or replicated.

The resulting sculptures exist somewhere between precision and chance. Their forms are deliberate, yet their textures are shaped by the material itself, revealing the quiet dialogue between intention and process.

Ramel is a reflection on making as experimentation, where the value lies not in function or perfection, but in allowing the material to leave its own trace.
